URGENT: PIPC Webinar and Discussion
The Policy Threat for Importing Quality-Adjusted Life Years (QALYs) and Similar Measures From Other Countries
The disability community has fought the use of QALYs and similar measures in the U.S. for over 30 years due to the implications for discrimination. These tools were created to ration care in other countries where people with disabilities and older adults are systematically devalued.
The new administration has issued an Executive Order similar to policies put forward during the first administration known as Most Favored Nation and an International Pricing Index. PIPC will review the old proposals, the recommendations against them from the National Council on Disability and others, as well as next steps for advocates in response to the new EO.
This is an important refresher and opportunity to share lessons learned as we work to protect patients, people with disabilities and older adults.
