1. Complete the PIPC Survey and Improve Health Policy by Sharing Resources with Policymakers!

The Partnership to Improve Patient Care (PIPC) compiled a list of patient-centered resources that policymakers can and should be using to inform their development of public policy.  We know that groups representing patients and people with disabilities know the populations they serve better than anyone, and that patients and people with disabilities bring credible and insightful data to the table.  We would very much appreciate you providing to us though this survey a list of the resources your organization is willing and able to provide to inform the development and implementation of new payment models, quality measures and shared decision-making tools.  Hopefully, this work will facilitate more direct engagement of patients and people with disabilities in policymaking. Click here to fill out PIPC’s survey. Click here to view the compiled list of patient resources on our website.

2. Philadelphia Inquirer: Patient-centered care is all the rage. But why are so few patients receiving it?

According to a recent opinion piece published in the Philadelphia Inquirer, “Whether it is overly complex billing systems, lack of transparency in quality and cost, fragmented and uncoordinated care, or hurried, harried and inattentive clinicians, our healthcare system seems to be more about meeting the needs of everyone but the patient… I wish I had an answer for why we are still not delivering patient-centered care to so many…. I believe that the medical profession, and those of us who claim to advocate for patients, must acknowledge our failures.  We must recommit ourselves to doing everything possible so that we don’t surrender patients to a healthcare system that doesn’t seem to care about them, and to advocate for reforms to truly put patients at the center of the health care system.  This all starts with listening to patients, including those like Jess who now speak to us from the grave.” Click here to view the article.

3. Video: Rocco Perla Explains the Importance of Patient-Centered Reform Conversations

In a video for The American Journal of Managed Care, Rocco Perla, president of Health Leads, explained that not only do stakeholders in the health system need to come together, but that the conversation also must be patient-centered to truly make headway in care reform. 4. PCORI Video: Engagement in PCORnet

In a video published last week, PCORI Engagement Committee Chair, Sharon Terry describes the history of the committee and its goal to involve people from the very start of research to dissemination of results with the ultimate goal of improving health outcomes. In addition to three content (Engagement, Research, and Data) committees, PCORnet has an Executive Committee and a Nominating Committee. Click here to view the video.
