PIPC Chairman Tony Coelho submitted a letter to the Oregon Prescription Drug Affordability Board (PDAB) expressing concerns about the Board's use of value assessments that discriminate against patients and people with disabilities.
The letter notes the feedback that the PDAB has previously received from PIPC and other representatives of the patient and disability community, who have stressed the discriminatory implications of cost effectiveness studies that have demonstrated bias. Indeed, it is disappointing that the Oregon PDAB continues to argue for their use despite these clear life-or-death implications.
"Whether the QALY or the evLYG, these measures are not allowable nor appropriate for use in making decisions that affect reimbursement and access to care," wrote PIPC Chair Tony Coelho. "I urge the PDAB to pause and provide opportunities for meaningful engagement with patients and people with disabilities."
